Dr. Fjelstad grew up in southern Minnesota, and attended Winona State University, and the University of Minnesota for his undergraduate studies. He attended medical school and his surgical residency in Chicago. He is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. To stay current in his field, he attends several educational conferences each year. These conferences include surgical dissection seminars where surgeries are performed/practiced on cadavers.
He is on staff at Fairview Ridges Hospital, United Hospital (St. Paul), and St Francis Hospital (Shakopee). He is also on staff at Minnesota Valley Surgery Center, and Centennial Lakes Surgery Center. He is a past member of the Minnesota Board of Podiatric Medicine. He is also a past Adjunct Associate Professor of Podiatric Medicine at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa.
As a Dad, he majored in Soccer, with minors in Swimming and Alpine Skiing. His status has changed from Bank of Dad to being a pushover Grandpa, having two-year old twin grandsons with a new baby brother in CO, and another grandchild due in May 2020, in Portland OR. In his spare time he and his wife, Julie, enjoy golf, travel, reading, and the company of good friends.
